The First Chakra or Root Chakra relates to the element of
Earth, the color Red, to our material existence and how our basic needs are met
– food, shelter, health, and pleasure. The First Chakra needs to be in balance
before we progress to the other chakra levels, or our growth will be without
roots and ungrounded, lacking the stability necessary for true growth. How
grounded are you?
The Root Chakra functions on the instinctual level
stimulating the adrenals for a flight-or-fight response to situations in our
lives. When our survival is threatened, we experience fear which may undermine
any feelings of safety and security. How strong is your will to survive?
The Root Chakra is where our earliest experiences and family
“programming” are recorded and stored creating a place for germinating the
seeds of life choices. The Root Chakra contains our family values, core
beliefs, and heritage. How was the love from our family given and received? Our
experiences with this “programming” affect the decisions we make regarding personal
choices and survival.
The Root Chakra reflects Self-Worth - our right to be here
and our ability to experience abundance rather than scarcity. First Chakra
contains the beliefs and experiences regarding our right to manifest, create,
and flourish in life. When we plant the seeds of intention, the First Chakra becomes
the foundation and starting point where we nourish our goals and passions. How do you manifest the objects of your desire?
We learn to understand and heal the body through the Root
Chakra, such as, learning to accept, feel, validate, and LOVE our bodies. First
Chakra allows us to do what we need to do to take care of ourselves. The Root Chakra
encourages self-nurturance through rest, eating well, exercising and pleasure.
What is your comfort level of be-ing in your own body?
In the body, the First Chakra is located at the base of the
spine. The Root chakra relates to the solid part of the flesh body, bones,
large intestine (which passes solid matter). The First Chakra regulates our
sexual functions. The Root Chakra holds space for awakening kundalini energy.
The sense of smell corresponds to the First Chakra.
