SCIENTIFIC: Petalite is a Lithium Sodium Aluminum Silicate often forming in granitic pegmatites (coarse-grained igneous rock) along with Albite, Quartz, and Lepidolite. Petalite formations commonly occur as aggregates rather than as individual crystals. Petalite is named for the Greek word for leaf due to its leaf-like layers. Petalites hardness is rated at 6.5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Petalites transparency ranges from transparent to translucent with a vitreous luster. Petalite comes in a variety of different colors from colorless to gray-white, yellow, as well as, light pink or green. Petalite is found in Canada, Sweden, Italy, Russia, Australia, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Afghanistan, and in the USA California and Maine.
