Feathers are symbolic of wind, faith, lightness,
mobility, air, flight, joy, and contemplation. Feathers aid in flight, help
with warmth insulating the body, and as display for attracting a mate. Physically,
birds bridge the space between heaven and earth, not only because of their
flying ability but they originated from primordial reptiles and dinosaurs. Honoring
feathers creates a connection between bird energies and the spirit world. It is
commonly believed, and in my personal experience, bird feathers may provide signs
and messages from spirit. When you are open to signs and answers from the
divine, more feathers will serendipitously appear on your path. Feathers are
thought to have magical powers and have been used throughout history by shamans
to decorate and empower medicine bundles, drums and rattles, hair pieces and clothing.
Feathers are said to assist in lifting prayers upwards to spirit and angels.
Winged angels are celestial messengers from the divine. In ancient Egypt, the
heart of the deceased was weighed against the feather of the goddess Maat, to
determine if the deceased life was lived in balance and fairness.
