SCIENTIFIC: Feldspar is the name of a family of silicates which share the same crystalline structures and chemical compositions. Feldspar is part of a group of aluminosilicate minerals that contain calcium, sodium, or potassium. Feldspar minerals are the most common component of the Earth’s crust. Feldspar color ranges from colorless specimens to white, cream, yellow, pink, and reddish brown. Feldspar was named from the Swedish word falt spat which translates into field spar. The mineral group of Feldspar was first reported in 1747 by JG Wallerius. Feldspar’s hardness is rated at 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Feldspar is transparent to translucent with a vitreous luster. Feldspar is found in regions throughout the world.
