Beautiful and colorful BumbleBee Jasper from Indonesia. Bumblebee
Jasper is not an actual jasper (a variety of Chalcedony.) BumbleBee Jasper is known as the trade name
for these bright and colorful specimens of fibrous calcite with inclusions of
Realgar and Pyrite. Prolonged exposure to light caused the mineral deposits of
Realgar to form the distinctive yellow and orange colors found in Bumblebee
Jasper. Bumblebees are for the most part a social species. Bumble bees are important
pollinators of wild flowering plants and crops. Bumble bees collectively make
nests, harvest pollen and work together for the safety and well-being of the
nest. There are a few species of Bumblebees that have a parasitic lifestyle,
taking over existing nests established by other species.
