Ammonite

Ammonites were cephalopods (predatory marine mollusks) like the modern species of Squid, Octopus, and chambered Nautilus. The term ammonite refers to an extinct group of mollusks. The most frequently preserved portion of the ammonite is the hard shell. This shell served as protection for the soft tissue of the animal and allowed the animal to achieve buoyancy in the ancient marine environment. Ammonites were thought to be capable swimmers, bottom feeder scavengers and carnivores. Ammonites first appeared in the lower Devonian Period evolving from ancient marine mollusks of the nautiloid species. The Ammonites survived several mass extinctions during the 330 million years they lived on Earth. The end of the Cretaceous Period was also the end for these cephalopods. Ammonites are found as fossils in most countries throughout the world.

There are various lores and myths surrounding Ammonite fossils, but all seem to attribute health, prosperity, and good luck. The name comes from the shell’s appearance: it resembles a ram’s horn. In Egyptian mythology, the God Ammon looked like a man with horns like a ram. The ancient fossil was considered Ammon’s stone, thus inheriting the name, Ammonite. Many cultures consider Ammonites to be symbols of good luck and prosperity. Ammonites are a symbol of the higher forces of the universe and their shape is said to attract and store wealth. Ammonite may help with manifesting patience and perseverance in conjunction with viewing the big picture and long-term strategies for achieving the end goal.

Alluding to its snail-like fossilized shell, Ammonite is a protective energetic fossil that offers stability and structure to a person’s life. Ammonite transmutes negativity into smooth flowing energy, increasing vitality and overall well-being. Ammonite fossils foster feelings of self-confidence and success offering energetic balance during periods of transition and transformation. Ammonites energetically support balance in life when dealing with unexpected upheavals or because of the long-term accumulation of circumstances.

In healing, Ammonite may be helpful with childbirth, depression, and general survival instincts. Ammonites vibrate to the number 9 and energetically align with the astrological sign of Aquarius.
